Follett to head foot-and-mouth inquiry
Former vice-chancellor of Warwick University, Sir Brian Follett, is to head the Royal Society inquiry into the scientific aspects of the foot-and-mouth epidemic. The Royal Society hopes the inquiry will help prepare Britain for future outbreaks of infectious diseases in livestock.

University guide published
The annual Push Guide to Which University is published next week as tens of thousands of young people prepare to enter clearing having received their Scottish Higher and A-level results.

Keele targets non-traditional applicants
Keele University has launched a website encouraging young people from poorer backgrounds to go to university. The site www.keele.ac.uk/uniworld aims to encourage school children aged 13 and over from families with no previous university education. It includes an interactive game that teaches pupils about higher education.
