Couple gives US university $18.4m
Two multi-millionaire animal lovers, Gladys Gwendolyn Davis and Vivian Davis Michael, have left $18.4 million to West Virginia University in the United States, mostly to support veterinary medicine. It is one of the largest private donations in the university's history.
Refugees housed in scholarships deal
Australia is to give educational and sporting scholarships for up to six Nauruan students. It is part of a deal under which more than 500 asylum seekers will be given temporary shelter on the remote Pacific Ocean island.
