Taxi driver Rachel Lowe picked up a fare that changed her life. The Portsmouth University lecturer in the back of her cab suggested she apply to study a degree as a mature student.
Ms Lowe, who dropped out of college after becoming pregnant, was accepted by Portsmouth despite having no A levels. She began a full-time degree in law with business.
In her first year, she saw posters for the university's Enterprise Challenge competition and entered an idea for a board game based on her experiences as a cabbie. Her design won. A year later, the company she set up, RTL Games, won the business category.
Her game, Destination, is this year's bestseller at Hamleys toy shop in London. When the Christmas rush is over, Ms Lowe, a mother of two, plans to finish her degree. "The launch and the sales are work-based learning," she said. "In January, I will write a report on my experiences."
