Hunt for educators to head youth initiative

Education experts are in demand at Liverpool John Moores University as it expands teaching and research in response to government policies for the young.

The university's faculty of education, community and leisure is advertising five posts in this week's Times Higher .

It is looking for a professor/ reader in educational research, a reader in education, a lecturer/ senior lecturer in special needs, a lecturer/senior lecturer in mathematics education and a research assistant.

The posts are part of plans to reflect the Government's Every Child Matters initiative, which aims to improve the health, safety and achievement of under-19s. Specifically, they will help to expand the work of the university's Centre for Educational Research and Evaluation in areas such as inclusive education.

Diana Burton, dean of the faculty, said the education studies programme had expanded rapidly in the past three years, benefiting from the recent decision by Ofsted to award LJMU's primary initial teacher training its highest possible grade.

The closing date for applications is May 30, apart from the lecturing post in mathematics education, which is May 22.
