The aim of the foundation is to "encourage all forms of scientific inquiry into cognitive mechanisms, including thought and reasoning, that underly animal and human behaviour; their biological and cultural bases, and phylogenetic and ontogenetic development".
To this end, the foundation awards a number of postdoctoral study grants. These study grants are for the training and support of postdoctoral researchers working in disciplines relevant to the aims of the Foundation such as ethology, paleontology, archaeology, anthropology, psychology, epistemology, logic and the neurosciences. Grants are intended to help young research scientists under 35 years of age.
