By publishing the present call, the Commission is inviting proposals for the implementation of "General activities of observation and analysis", action 6 of the SOCRATES programme (OJEC Series C N°61 08/03/2002).

Objectives of the « General activities of observation and analysis » 2002 Priority themes

The launching of the present call for proposals is part of the SOCRATES action "Observation of education systems, policies and innovation" and provides financial support to a series of activities aimed to improve and facilitate the exchange of information and experience in education among the countries participating in this community programme (projects should actively involve establishments from at least five countries taking part in Socrates and at least from one Member State).

The activities covered by this call for proposals are designed to fuel and support discussion at the policy level in the area of education on the priority themes defined each year in close co-operation with the Member States (represented within the Education Committee of the Council).

With this in mind, this call for proposals, has as its objectives to financially support studies, comparative analysis, exchange of experiences and other appropriate activities on two priority key issues of the Report on the future objectives of education and of training systems (pdf format) - Basic skills, and teaching of Mathematics, sciences and technology - and to encourage medium and long term reflection on the development of education and of training systems as a whole in Europe (please for more details see text of the call for proposals).
