Cumbria plan advances

The creation of Cumbria University came a step closer this week with the appointment of Sir Martin Harris, the director of the Office for Fair Access, to oversee the next stage of development. Sir Martin, who is the former vice-chancellor of Manchester University and is deputy chairman of the Northwest Regional Development Agency, will work with a group of major stakeholders in the county on behalf of the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
