Claim over race and RAE

May 14, 2009

A former research fellow at The Robert Gordon University is taking the institution to an employment tribunal over its failure to include her in the 2008 research assessment exercise.

Jiaolan Bowden, a researcher of Chinese ethnic origin who was based at the university Business School's Scottish Centre for Tourism, alleges that her exclusion from the RAE was related to her race.

The claim is part of a case being brought by Dr Bowden against the university for racial discrimination, unfair dismissal and victimisation - allegations that the university denies.

A spokesman said the university "strongly denies" all of the allegations contained in the claim.

A full hearing is scheduled for later in the year.
