University of Teesside

Surya Shah, former associate professor at the University of Queensland, has been appointed to the first chair of occupational therapy in England. Les Johnston, reader and head of criminology at the University of Exeter and member of the council of the British Society of Criminology, has been appointed professor of criminology.

University of Wolverhampton

Ruslan Mitkov, researcher in various fields of computational linguistics, and a member of the International Association for Computational Linguistics, the European Association for Machine Translation and the Union of Bulgarian Scientists, has been appointed professor of computational linguistics in the school of languages and European studies; Jean Gilkinson, former principal lecturer, has been appointed professor in Hispanic studies and dean of research; Terry Goodison, designer and developer of the "English for Business" series of CD-Roms, has been appointed professor of interactive multimedia communication.

Anglia Polytechnic University

Andrew Webster, senior reader in sociology and director of the science and technology studies unit, has been appointed professor in the sociology of science and technology.
