David VandeLinde, vice-chancellor at Bath University for the past eight years, has been named the next vice-chancellor for the University of Warwick.
He will take up the post in August next year, succeeding Sir Brian Follett, who steps down in April after eight years as Warwick's vice-chancellor.
Professor VandeLinde said: "Warwick is now well established within the UK's 'Ivy League', and I look forward to the opportunity and challenge... to lead Warwick in becoming recognised as a world-class research university."
