A partnership between a Welsh university and one of Britain's largest bee farmers will "breed a better bee" for Wales. Bangor University will collaborate with Tropical Forest Products, a farm based in mid-Wales, to breed a stock of docile, disease-resistant bees suited to the wet Welsh climate. The bees will eventually be available to other beekeepers across Wales. The project aims to breed a strain of bees resistant to diseases and parasites including the Varroa destructor mite.
