Aston University has been criticised by its students' union for taking over a highly rated independent student-advice centre. Colin Shaw, president of Aston Students' Guild, said its members were "distressed" that the university had made a member of staff at the Advice and Representation Centre redundant and had decided to review its services without consulting the Guild's executive body. Mr Shaw also expressed concern that removing the centre from the Guild's control would damage its chances of achieving charitable status.
