Andrew Evans , professor of transport safety at the University of London, has been appointed to the Lloyd's Register chair in transport risk management at Imperial College London.

Derick Wilson , senior lecturer in community relations at the University of Ulster's School of Education, has been appointed commissioner of the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.

Shirley Dex has been appointed head of the Bedford Group for lifecourse and statistical studies at the Institute of Education, University of London; and Heather Joshi has become director of the Centre for Longitudinal Studies.

Adrian Bossey , former director of Adrian Boss Promotions and band manager of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, Chumbawumba and others, has been appointed creative enterprise fellow for music at Dartington College of Arts.

Tom Schuller , dean of the faculty of continuing education and professor of lifelong learning at Birkbeck, University of London, has been appointed head of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's Centre for Educational Research and Innovation.

Linda Drew , co-director of the Learning and Teaching Support Network for Art, Design and Communication at the University of Brighton, has been appointed dean of academic development at Chelsea College of Art and Design.

Clarification
Last week we neglected to mention that Mike Smith , new deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Teesside, was professor and dean of research at Leeds Teaching Hospitals National Health Service Trust.
