Laban Centre, London Rosemary Butcher, choreographic artist has been appointed project leader for the centre's international summer school 1998.

Jews College, University of London David Hillel Ruben, professor of philosophy at the London School of Economics has been granted a secondment on his appointment as director of the college.

Independent Commission Alan Alexander, professor at the University of Strathclyde, has been appointed by the secretary of state to serve on the Independent Commission on Relations between local government and the Scottish parliament.

As part of a team of three external lay members, he will also develop a code of standards for Glasgow City Council.

British Confederation of Psychotherapists Bernard Cullen, professor of philosophy at Queen's University, Belfast, has been appointed chair of the ethics committee.
