Our Colleges

University Campuses

The University occupies two main campuses - one in Derby and one in Buxton – plus FE provision in Leek and Buxton. We are also developing a new campus in Chesterfield.

The Derby campus is home to the majority of our programmes, and benefits from a continuous investment programme designed to provide modern and inspiring facilities for our staff and students. The campus is spread across a number of sites in the north west of the city.

In Buxton, our base is the historic Devonshire Dome which provides the perfect setting for our students in Tourism Management; Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts; Events Management; Spa Management; Sports Coaching; Development and Psychology; Sports Massage and Exercise Therapy; Outdoor, Adventure and Countryside Management.

As well as continuously improving our facilities, we take seriously our environmental responsibilities and over the past three years have invested over £14 million in energy efficiency schemes and improvements including photovoltaic cells and wind turbines to reduce carbon emissions and generate our own power.

College of Arts

1.

The College of Arts is a strong creative community, including fine artists, photographers, filmmakers, illustrators, animators, designers, musicians and performers. Students are encouraged to work across disciplines, gaining a broader perspective and sharing facilities such as the University’s Learning Theatre as they develop their individual talents. Our fashion and textiles, art, and design courses were ranked 3rd, 5th and 6th in the 2015 Guardian league tables.

College of Business

The College of Business offers a range of traditional business subjects. With many courses accredited by leading professional bodies, it is one of the UK’s leading providers of work-based learning solutions and is ranked number one in the UK in the Guardian League Table for Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism.

College of Education

The College of Education has partnerships with a great many local schools, early years’ settings, colleges and other organisations and we are one of only a small number of HEIs to consistently achieve an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating for our teacher training provision, the latest being in November 2015. In the Newly Qualified Teacher Survey, our students ranked their training as among the best in the country.

College of Engineering and Technology

The College of Engineering and Technology offers an innovative teaching curriculum in modern laboratories and workshops. We have strong links with manufacturing giants Rolls-Royce and Toyota and we are an academic partner with CERNE, Microsoft, SAS and Epic (games development). HEFCE has recently granted us £5 million towards a major new STEM centre, which will contribute to increasing the size of our existing site by 30%.
