MA: Bill Frain in recognition of his contribution to the development of education for nurses and healthcare professionals in the West of England.

MTech: Alec Ewens, chairman of the Bristol Intiative Charitable Trust and Bristol Chamber of Commerce board director.


Honorary doctorates have been presented to: Patrick le Quement, senior vice president (quality and corporate design) of Renault.

Birmingham Conservatoire: Janet Ritterman, director of the Royal College of Music.

University of Essex

DUniv: Elizabeth Hall (below), medical director of the St Helena Hospice, Colchester; Sigmund Sternberg, founder of the Sternberg Centre for Judaism, London; Ron Johnston, professor of geography at the University of Bristol and former vice chancellor of the University of Essex.
