The following were elected to fellowships: Struther Arnott, principal and vice chancellor, University of St Andrews, former member of the MRC biophysics unit at KCL; Robert Hider, head of the school of life, basic medical and health sciences; Robert Hill, head of the school of physical sciences and engineering; Stephen Mason, emeritus professor of chemistry; Alan McGregor, professor of medicine in the college's school of medicine and dentistry; Njongonkulu Ndungane, archbishop of Cape Town; Conrad Russell, professor of British history; Richard Sykes, chairman and chief executive of Glaxo Wellcome plc; Brian Trowell, Heather professor of music emeritus, University of Oxford; John Uff, director of the centre for construction law and management, barrister and engineering.
