UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE. Ian Howard, artist and course director in drawing at the school of fine art, Duncan of Jordanstone College, has been appointed professor of fine art.

KINGSTON UNIVERSITY. The following have been appointed visiting professors in the principles of engineering design under the Royal Academy of Engineering's scheme: Christopher Binnie, chairman of WS Atkins Consultants Water and Environment Group; Jack Houldsworth, ICL emeritus fellow; Paul Murray, former research manager for Rediffusion Simulation Limited.

UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS. Stephen Mobbs, senior lecturer in applied mathematical studies, developmental chair in atmospheric dynamics; Roger Pollard, senior lecturer in electronic and electrical engineering, developmental chair in high frequency measurements; Anne Edwards, former chair in education research and director of research at University College of St Martin Lancaster, chair of primary education; John Self, reader in computing at Lancaster University, chair of knowledge-based systems; Peter Johnson, senior lecturer in chemistry, developmental chair n computational chemistry; Brian Hoyle, senior lecturer in electronic and electrical engineering, developmental chair in vision and image systems; Robert Cochrane, British Steel's Swinden Technology Centre in Rotherham, British Steel chair in the school of materials for five years from January; Susan Siegfried, manager at the Getty Art History Information Program, California, chair in the history of art.
