NACCEG Rodney Buse, former personnel director of W. H. Smith Group plc, has succeeded Christopher Ball as the chairman of the National Advisory Council for Careers and Educational Guidance.

NACETT Gillian Shephard, Secretary of State for Education and Employment, and William Hague, Secretary of State for Wales, have appointed the following to the National Advisory Council for Education and Training Targets: Judith Round, principal of Highbury College, Portsmouth, and Adair Turner, director general of the CBI. Tony Cann, chairman of Terminal Display Systems Ltd, has been reappointed as a member and Michael Heron and Ron Dearing have been appointed as ex-officio members.

UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ENGLAND Brian Anderson, head of the department of financial services, associate dean (academic); Phil Clarke, head of the department of business policy and marketing, associate dean (resources and systems). Chris Painter, professor in the faculty of law and social sciences, head of the department of public policy.

UNIVERSITY OF PORTSMOUTH John Craven, professor of economics and deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Kent at Canterbury, has been appointed vice chancellor from January 1997.
