UNIVERSITY OF NORTH LONDON. Robert Morgan, programme leader of business studies at Middlesex University, has been appointed head of business strategy in the business school; Judy White, lecturer in the centre for urban and regional studies, University of Birmingham, has been appointed reader in leisure management in the centre for leisure at tourism studies.

GENERAL SYNOD

Anthony Thiselton, professor of Christian theology at the University of Nottingham, has been elected to the General Synod of the Church of England.

JOSEPH ROWNTREE FOUNDATION

Margaret Booth, retired High Court judge, Family Division, has been appointed trustee of the foundation.

THE LONDON INSTITUTE

Sandra Holby, dean of fashion promotion at the London College of Fashion, has been appointed head of college.

UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW

Dugald Mackie, secretary to the council and director of finance and central services at the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council, has been appointed as secretary to the university court.

UNIVERSITY OF DURHAM

Tim Burton, former chairman of the British Geomorphological Research group, has been appointed professor of geography and master of Hatfield College. Deborah Lavin, president of the Howlands Trust and former principal of Trevelyan College has been appointed principal-elect of the university's new college at Howlands Farm.

OPEN COLLEGE

John Trasler, former northwest manager has been appointed managing director.
