ASSOCIATED BOARD OF THE ROYAL SCHOOLS OF MUSIC. Clara Taylor, professor at the Royal Academy of Music, has been appointed chief examiner, succeeding Jean Harvey.

THE WELLCOME TRUST

Trust governors have appointed the following new governors: Michael Rutter, professor of child psychiatry, honorary director of the Medical Research Council child psychiatry unit and director of the Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Research Centre; Martin Bobrow, professor of medical genetics at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, and former member of the Wellcome Trust's genetics interest group.

LANCASTER UNIVERSITY

The management school has appointed Valerie Waters, independent management development consultant and former European director of management and organisation development for Kraft General Foods in Munich, as director of its management development division.

UMIST

Roland Smith, former professor of marketing at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and chairman of Manchester United plc, was installed as chancellor on May 1.

UNIVERSITY OF READING

Roger Mead, professor and dean of the faculty of agriculture and food, has been appointed deputy vice chancellor.
