Southwark Cathedral

David Peacock, pro rector of Roehampton Institute London and principal of Whitelands College, has been installed as honorary canon.

Royal Northern College of Music Rosemary Williamson, music librarian at John Rylands University of Manchester, has been appointed librarian.

University of Sussex

Brian Roberts, professor of engineering, is appointed pro vice chancellor; Michael Hawkins, reader in history, director of students services; Marc Williams, director of the graduate research centre for the comparative study of culture, development and the environment.

Natural Environment Research Council

David Falvey, director of the Ocean Drilling Program at the Joint Oceanographic Institutions in Washington DC, has been appointed director of the British Geological Survey, following the retirement in January 1998 of Peter Cook.

University College London

Roland Rosner, professor, has been appointed director of the education and information support division that incorporates library services, media resources, education and professional development and information systems.

RSA

The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce has appointed Penny Egan (the society's programme development director) as director of the society on the retirement of James Sandison, acting director, in January 1998.
