Rough part of the galaxy

Stephen Hawking thinks that we'd be safest avoiding intelligent life elsewhere in the Universe (The Week in Higher Education, 29 April). This is unlikely to be a problem. If the life is genuinely intelligent, it will already be trying hard to avoid us.
