Letter: In brief (3)

October 5, 2001

Several years' experience of recruitment and training in the private sector demonstrates that spelling and proofreading skills are rare in graduates (Letters, THES , September 28).

When teaching as a PhD student, I was shocked at the spelling and typographical errors in essays presented for assessment and appalled to be told by perpetrators that no one had even mentioned their spelling before. These were second-years reading English.
