Job Description: The Applied Chemistry and Engineering Research Center of Excellence (ACER CoE) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University invites applications for faculty positions specialized in water desalination processes and technologies. The positions are open to individuals who hold MS degree and PhD in water desalination or closely related engineering fields. Preference will be given to those with proven excellence in research achievements; a strong track record in publications top tier journals, and established international  career in academia and/or in industry. Proven records in  fund acquisition, the co-supervision of MS and PhD students, and teaching efforts are required. Also, excellent communication  and writing skills in English are mandatory. Key duties: Successful candidates are expected to: Perform multidisciplinary research on desalination and membrane processes, and contribute in developing funded research programs, with a special emphasis on innovative and sustainable technologies for seawater desalination, fouling mitigation  and brine management Develop and teach courses at the under and postgraduate levels related to the candidate's areas of research in seawater and brackish water desalination. Supervise PhDs and young researchers Participate in writing proposals and managing extramural funding Publish the results in refereed top-tier international journals. Pursue scholarly and professional activities that will keep him/her at the leading edge of his/her field. Criteria of the candidate: PhD in the subject discipline At least 5 years of proven experience in the subject discipline Relevant experience in the subject discipline as a faculty member, postdoctoral researcher or in industry would be an asset  Established track record in R&D, teaching, and fundraising Proven hands-on expertise with membrane-based technologies for desalination  Experience with the mitigation of fouling phenomena and/or management of desalination brine is a plus. Demonstrated mastering of operational requirements for a successful research project and managing resources. Prior co-supervising PhDs and young researchers Ability to generate new ideas, or build upon existing ones, to generate innovative and  marketable concepts and solutions. UM6P.

Job description: The successful candidate will: Undertake original research of international excellence. Prepare papers for publication in leading journals and/or contribute to the dissemination at national/international conferences, workshops and meetings. Communicate to the research projects team the development, progress and results of research activities. Develop collaborative links with the core scientific staff in related program areas to gain exposure and build knowledge on experimental/research activities and approaches, in order to improve conceptual development and implementation. Identify areas of improvement within the research structure using integrated management approaches in pursuit of capacity building/strengthening and the preservation of scientific rigor in research studies. Support if required, the development of proposals for research funding. Develop undergraduate courses, Master courses and modules. Support the appropriate equipment purchasing and ability to deal with international suppliers. Assist to the supervision of Ph.D. students and guide their research work Candidate Profile: Due to the multidisciplinary character of ACER CoE, the ideal candidate must have as well a multidisciplinary scientific profile: PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Crystallography Knowledge in crystallization technics Expertise in solving crystal structure using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Experience in solving crystal structure using powder X-ray diffraction data or electronic diffraction data would be a plus.  Knowledge in advanced structural characterizations will be valued. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English. Good publication track record in peer-reviewed journals. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team. Excellent networking ability and organizational skills. Experience in co-supervision and coordination of master students. About MSN department: The Department of Materials Science, Energy, and nano-Engineering (MSN) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco has been in operation for 4 years and during that time expanded quite substantially. The number of employees is around 42, including 13 professors, 24 guest professors, 15 post-Doctoral fellows, 40 PhD students, and 52 Executive Master students. The department is organized in 4 Scientific Areas: Energy (batteries and hydrogen), Polymers and Composite Materials, Surface Science, and Sustainable Materials and Re-cycling. Description of the position and duties: The position is devoted to organic synthesis and studies of ion conducting polymers and polymer-based membranes (anion and cation exchange membranes). These materials will be used in hydrogen fuel cells and for water electrolyzer (alkaline and PEM). The research will focus on developing synthetic strategies and know how to design, to synthesis and functionalize these materials from the molecular level to achieve membranes with high selectivity, conductivity, and stability. The candidate is expected to have an extensive experience in chemistry of polymers and organic synthesis, development of new monomers, ionomers, ionogels, oligomers and polymers along with chemical modification and post- polymerization modification, polymer characterization, preparation of functional membranes, as well as analysis of ion selectivity and conductivity, mechanical and thermal properties with a focus on thermochemical stability and aging, membrane testing to determine IEC, transference number and selectivity, chemical stability and assembling/testing with electrodes. The successful candidate is expected to contribute and establish active research in the field of selective membranes for water electrolysis to produce hydrogen and for fuel cells within the hydrogen group at the MSN department and to participate indifferent activities of the department. The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, polymer chemistry. Extensive experience in membrane development, testing and polymer synthesis, functionalization, modification, are mandatory. Knowledge or mastering computational fluid dynamics software and modeling tools to simulate and study fluid flow through porous electrode, membranes, electrode membrane assembly (MEA) for electrolysis and fuel cells will be an asset. Preference will be given to applicants with excellent and relevant R&D along with excellent publication track record. Good communication skills, both verbal and writing are mandatory in English.

Strong knowledge of adsorption isotherm models, mass transport mechanisms, and surface chemistry. Experience in synthesis, functionalization, and characterization of adsorbents or membranes. Proficiency in advanced characterization techniques, such as BET, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, TGA, ICP, and gas sorption analysis. Good understanding of process design for adsorption or membrane-based separation. Strong track record of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
