The University of Sierra Leone can trace its roots back to the 1820s and achieved university status in 2005. The university has schools of arts, humanities, social science, law, basic and applied science, engineering and architecture. These are based on tthe campus at Mount Aureol, above the capital city, Freetown. The Institute of Public Administration and Management was founded in 1980 and is based in the centre of Freetown. The college of medical and allied sciences was founded as Sierra Leone’s first medical school in 1988.

Lead transformational blood cancer research with national reach and international influence, supported by a landmark partnership with the Leukaemia Foundation. Full-time appointment on a five-year fixed-term basis. The University of Western Australia, in partnership with the Leukaemia Foundation, is seeking an internationally recognised academic leader to be appointed as the Leukaemia Foundation Tony Fini Chair in Blood Cancer. This newly created position represents a unique opportunity to shape the future of blood cancer research nationally and globally. The successful candidate will be an outstanding researcher and leader in blood cancer or related blood disorders, with a distinguished record of research excellence, competitive grant success, translational impact and academic leadership. You will lead an ambitious, internationally competitive research program with a strong focus on prevention, early detection and diagnostics, areas traditionally underrepresented in blood cancer research. We welcome applications from both clinician researchers and laboratory-based researchers across discovery and translational research, including those focused on adult or paediatric populations. Reporting to the Head of the UWA Medical School (for clinician researchers) or the School of Biomedical Sciences (for laboratory-based researchers), the Chair will build and lead a high-performing, inclusive research team, supervise higher degree research students, mentor early- and mid‑career academics, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration across UWA, Medical Research Institutes and external partners. There may be scope for concurrent clinical practice, subject to agreement with the WA Department of Health. You will play a key role in strengthening UWA’s relationship with the Leukaemia Foundation, representing both organisations nationally and internationally, and contributing to strategic partnerships with competitive funding bodies, philanthropy, government, industry and the community. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary purpose of this role is to deliver on a collaborative research project, Proteins for Singapore (P4SG), where you will be part of the research team to establish and understand the structuration of algae/soybean/mung bean proteins for high quality alternative protein foods including through high moisture extrusion. Key responsibilities will include: Explore innovative methods for food process optimization including the use of AI and machine-learning Develop and execute methods for characterizing and linking the texture and structure of alternative protein foods Design, execute, and interpret experiments independently. Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigators (PI), and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables including periodic progress reports are met. Author papers in high-quality journals and contribute to grant writing in areas that are related to the research. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as manage a team of junior researchers and students to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor. Ideal qualities of the candidate include: Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. Description The Office of Global Education and its Community-based Global Learning (CBGL) Team at NYU Abu Dhabi invite applications for an Associate Academic Specialist - Community-based Global Learning position on a fixed-term, three-year contract. The Associate Academic Specialist will support faculty in designing community-based global learning activities for their semester, J-Term, and summer courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructional and academic-administrative support for courses featuring CBGL offered across the academic year. Principle Responsibilities Reviews syllabi to make recommendations for community-based global learning activities to faculty. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to elucidate the role of transition metals in cancer growth and to exploit the unique properties of metal complexes in anticancer drug discovery. Projects will involve the characterization of biological activities of novel compounds, including metal complexes and/or metal-binding agents, in in-vitro cancer and immune cell models. Strong expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for preclinical development of novel anticancer drugs are provided by this team. The contract duration is 3 years with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 3 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months. An extension up to a total of 4 years is then possible provided the excellent performance of the candidate. Your future tasks: Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology will be centered on the biological effects of novel tumor-inhibiting compounds, including their impact on immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and therapy resistance mechanisms in human cell models. Characterization of bioactivities by cell and molecular biology-based methods including flow cytometry, (confocal) microscopy, and immunofluorescence will take place in coordination with experts in synthetic chemistry to enable the optimal design of potential cancer therapeutics.
