The University of the Philippines is a network of seven universities and one autonomous college scattered across the island nation. Many of its constituent universities have more than one campus of their own.

UP Diliman, 10km north east of Manila, is comfortably the largest, boasting as many as half of UP’s students over the years.

UP Manila, in the heart of the nation’s capital, specialises in health sciences, as the successor to the Philippine Medical School, founded in 1905. Manila is one of the largest, most cosmopolitan and most frenzied cities in Asia, buzzing with nightclubs, lively restaurants and bars.

The main focuses of UP Los Baños, south east of Manila, are forestry, agriculture and environmental studies. It has a strong bioengineering and plant breeding legacy and also owns the 10,500-acre Mt. Makiling Forest Reserve

Established in 1995, UP Open University, the distance learning leader which runs a range of online courses for home and overseas students, has three faculties, 10 learning centres and 19 testing centres on several of the Philippines’ 7000 islands.

UP Visayas takes a special interest in fisheries and marine sciences, being situated on the south coast of Panay Island.

UP Mindanao, in the far south of the country, puts extra emphasis on architecture and biotechnology programmes.

The newest university in the chain, UP Baguio, founded in 2002, enjoys a reputation as a national leader in sciences, mathematics and humanities.

UP’s autonomous college, UP Cebu, used to be part of UP Visayas but became independent in order to focus on business and IT courses.

UP is largely seen as one of the best Filipino universities in national rankings and among the top institutions in Asia.. Recent improvements include academic reputation and international faculty ratio.

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Mathematics. Candidates must hold a PhD in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is of advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes. Teaching Responsibilities In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach mathematics courses in the Faculty of Engineering, mainly courses in the Sustainable Process Engineering (SPE). The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduction is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes). Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures on the following modules: Linear Algebra and Calculus Advanced Calculus and Differential Equations Probability and Statistics Numerical Mathematics The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may requires conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects. The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses and mentoring PhD students. Research Responsibilities As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of Mathematics. We seek candidates with a strong foundation in Numerical Analysis and Computational Mathematics. While expertise in a range of methods is valued, we particularly encourage applications from individuals with experience or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following areas: Numerical methods for differential equations (e.g., finite element methods, finite volume methods, or related discretization techniques). Computational modeling of complex systems, including physics-based or data-driven approaches. Emerging challenges in modern numerical analysis, such as uncertainty quantification, high-dimensional problems, scientific machine learning, or optimization. Candidates with complementary expertise in related areas of applied or computational mathematics are also encouraged to apply. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable. Administrative responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Sustainable Process Engineering (SPE) by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Ruhr-Universität Bochum. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self-administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies. Qualification Candidates must hold a PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor will be a plus, as experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology. Other requirements include: An outstanding academic record with a focus on Mathematics or other areas closely related to it Proven expertise in Mathematics Strong track record of successful research activities and publications in international and peer-reviewed journals in the related area Proven teaching experience with strong self-motivation combined with a passion for teaching and research Experience in industry is of advantage Proven excellent English proficiency: Candidates who are from non-native English-speaking countries should include one of the following valid English proficiency certificates; IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 548(PBT), TOEFL 84 (iBT), TOEFL 212 (CBT), CEFR level B2 or Aptis level C1 at the time of application submission. The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva, Switzerland invites applications for a tenure-track full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor of International Law starting on 1 September 2027 or on a mutually agreed-upon date. We are seeking to hire an outstanding colleague with the potential for research leadership in international law and with a demonstrated interest in issues related to global health. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in law prior to the start of their contract and show excellence in research through completed projects and a promising research agenda. Postdoctoral research experience is not required but considered an asset. Applications from candidates already holding a position of Assistant Professor in another institution are also welcome.
