关于 University of King’s College

Established in 1789, the University of King's College is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

It is the oldest chartered university in Canada, and the first English-speaking university in the Commonwealth outside the United Kingdom.

The university's best-known programme is its foundation year programme for first year students, an intensive course of history, philosophy and literature in the western tradition, through the study of books.

The contemporary studies programme, the early modern studies programme and the history of science and technology programme are offered jointly with Dalhousie University as combined honours degrees requiring a second honours discipline.

The university is also known for its upper-year interdisciplinary programmes – particularly its contemporary studies programme, early modern studies programme, and its history of science and technology programme.

The university’s journalism school draws students from across the globe and offers master of journalism programmes and a master of fine arts in creative nonfiction, the first of its kind in Canada.

Once every two months, formal meals are held where students wear traditional academic gowns and are led into the meal hall by a bagpiper.
