Founded in 1975, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah is named for a 18th century Sultan of Morocco, the nation in which the university is based. The main campus is located in the northern city of Fez, a World Heritage Site and historically the last stop on the famous gold trading route from Timbuktu. The close-by University of Al Quaraouiyine is a religious school in the city that was founded in 859CE and is often considered the oldest continuously running university in the world today.

There are active cultural activities taking place at USMBS, and the institution has hosted an annual Theatre Festival since 2005. The university is also dedicated to outreach in the local community, and will often host programmes for the elderly. In 2016 there were two forums held discussing on the subject of energy supply in Morocco, hosting lively and active debate from both outside experts and the student body.

USMBA is an active participant of international partnership programme Erasmus Mundus Al-Idrisi, co-ordinating exchange programmes with universities in Europe and North Africa. In 2016, head of Geography at the University of Rennes II, Adeline Cotonnec, met with faculty from USMBA. The two teams discussed a strengthened relationship between the two institutions for research and teaching, and for the introduction of the 2017 TOUBKAL Programme of Scientific Endeavour involving institutions in both France and Morocco.

The professorship of sustainable logistics in industrial engineering and management is located at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) of the LUT School of Engineering Sciences. The position is based in Kouvola, Finland. IEM is an integrative, solution-oriented discipline that addresses organisations and their networks as technological, economic, and social systems with the objective of enabling innovations, creating value, and leading businesses towards high efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. The department’s research focuses specifically on innovation and technology management, logistics and supply chains, operations management, cost and performance management, entrepreneurship, and systems engineering. What we expect from you The professorship will reinforce the IEM department’s logistics and innovation research and education. The person appointed to the position must present strong research merits in sustainable logistics in industrial management. Applicants must have proven expertise in at least one of the following fields: Logistics management and services, transportation systems Supply chain management, sustainability in logistics Artificial intelligence in logistic applications of industrial management Practical experience in the field is not a requirement in this position, but strong evidence of industrial research and development projects is considered an advantage. Transfer of collected scientific data, data backup/cloud-based infrastructure for collected data and study-related products. Assisting with the organization and post-processing of collected raw data for use in ongoing projects within the context of the Study Participant Platform (SPP).
