Universitatea Politehnica Timisoara is located in Timisoara, one of the designated European Capital of Culture for 2021. The university will just have completed its centenary celebrationsin 2020 when the cultural events get underway.
The decree for its foundation was issued by King Ferdinand I, who also gave UPT its motto when he said in 1923 that "It is not the walls that make a school, but the spirits living inside".
After several name changes, including more than 20 years bearing the name of aviation pioneer Traian Vuia, it took its current title in 1995 and since 2011 has been rated as an advanced research and technical university by the national Ministry of Education and Technology, the only university in Western Romania to be classified among the 12 in the whole country.
Notable buildings on campus include the Rectorate’s Lloyd Palace and the Central Library, which was inaugurated in 2014 by a chain of 1,000 students passing the last 100 books from the old library building into the new building. There are also two three-star hotels.
The university started off with the faculty of mechanical engineering and has since grown to 10 faculties representing different disciplines of engineering, including one satellite operation in Hunedoara. Of 3,300 students admitted in 2019, the largest intakes were in automotive and computer science (690) and mechanics (615). The 12 journals published by the university include the Nonconventional Technologies Review.
Centenary plans include the modernisation of 100 laboratories and the creation of 10 new ones, the creation of 100 master's grants, 100 PhD scholarships, 10 new language study programmes and 100 agreements with companies and research institutions.

About Us The PET Centre is part of Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London within the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences. We run a clinical PET service in parallel with an extensive programme of clinical research. Facilities currently include two cyclotrons, radiochemistry labs, three PET-CT scanners and a PET-MR scanner. We have recently installed two state-of-the-art Siemens Quadra Total Body PET-CT scanners. This is a very exciting time to join our team with ample opportunity to contribute to an ambitious programme developing the clinical and research capabilities of the department. Our work includes providing a clinical PET service for >8,000 patients per year from across South East London as well as national referrals from other UK centres. We also support clinical and technical research programs with collaborators from the Hospital, the Medical School and other institutions. Clinical and research imaging capabilities are greatly enhanced by our on-site cyclotrons and radiochemistry laboratories, with tracers produced to GMP standards. We are one of two initial sites selected by the Medical Research Council (MRC) for the UK Total Body PET infrastructure. About The Role We are seeking a highly experienced PET radiographer/imaging technologist for maternity leave cover, to support our imaging teams in developing new ways of working to fully exploit the opportunities that Total Body PET will bring. With support and in collaboration with the PET Centre Superintendent Radiographers, the post holder will be responsible for identifying, developing and co-ordinating training and development initiatives for the Imaging teams. With input from the Medical Physics Leads, they will ensure staff are supported in adopting new practices to optimise clinical imaging protocols for Total Body PET, whilst maintaining skills in conventional PET-CT. They will ensure staff are trained to the highest possible standards to deliver a growing portfolio of PET research studies in adherence with Good Clinical Practice. In doing so, they will be expected to lead by example, able to deliver excellent quality imaging and patient/participant care themselves. They will provide leadership and motivation to establish research and clinical practices which are evidence-based and lead to standard setting. With the Superintendent team, they will monitor and review professional standards of care, reporting on performance, and instituting remedial action where necessary. To be successful in this post, we require a dynamic and ambitious qualified Radiographer/Technologist with good interpersonal skills and at least 3 years’ experience of working in PET imaging or nuclear medicine. Candidates who have experience in a practice development role and/or in delivering research studies and/or working with Total Body PET will be preferred. An important criterion for selecting the successful post holder will be their commitment to drive and implement change when recommended. They will support teams to deliver excellent clinical care to all patients and research subjects, working within all relevant local and National regulatory and clinical governance guidelines. The post holder will assist the Radiation Protection Supervisor, Superintendent Radiographers and clinical and academic leads in all aspects of service provision, including working with new staff, trainees, students and visitors. They will need to be able to work independently, make decisions, and organise and prioritise their workload in a busy work environment and time critical situations. The role will be based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, but there will also be some requirement to engage with collaborators across the UK Total Body PET infrastructure, and to promote and disseminate practice development information to the wider PET professional community. About us: The post will be based in the KCL Social, Genetic, and Developmental Psychiatry Centre, within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN). The Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP) Centre is uncovering the genetic and environmental influences on mental health and psychiatric disorders. Our research encompasses behavioural genetics, molecular genetics, experimental psychology and psychiatry, and neuroimaging. Scientists at the SGDP lead some of the UK’s foremost longitudinal cohort and twin studies including TEDS, eRISK, Dunedin, IMAGEN and GLAD. The NIHR BioResource Centre Maudsley leads the NIHR BioResource for Mental Health. We focus on recruiting participants experiencing mental health conditions, as well as healthy people. Alongside GLAD MHG and The GLAD study, Prof. Breen’s team boasts an accomplished portfolio of clinical and genetic studies which aim to improve treatment and outcomes for those affected by anxiety, depression, eating disorders and other mental health conditions. About the role: We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Laboratory Technician to support the large-scale biobanking of blood samples for the Genetic Links to Anxiety and Depression (GLAD) Study Mental Health Goals (MHG) OMICs Programme. This project represents the largest multiomics programme for severe depression worldwide, designed to accelerate discovery in psychiatric genomics and to provide a long-term resource for the research community. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work in a cross-disciplinary environment, applying cutting-edge biobanking and genomic technologies to mental health research. The role will centre on the receipt, processing, and storage of thousands of blood samples, ensuring accurate sample tracking and data linkage within our ISO17025-accredited pipelines. The postholder will also support semi-automated sample processing, DNA extraction, and preparation of material for downstream genomic assays including Illumina genotyping and Oxford Nanopore sequencing. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians, and study coordinators, the postholder will ensure the highest quality of biobanking and data integrity. Responsibilities will include contributing to laboratory reports, maintaining detailed records, and supporting quality assurance processes.
