Your working place: The Department of Astrophysics with currently around 90 members is part of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy at the University of Vienna. We are searching for a Senior scientist to contribute to the development of numerical codes used by the Solar System Evolution group and other groups at the department. Our ideal candidate has a scientific background in the evolution of stellar and planetary atmospheres and strong background in computational astrophysics and software development. The job consists of two equally important parts: 1) to contribute to the research in the area of atmospheric evolution with the focus on atmospheric escape and 2) to take the lead in developing and supporting computational tools for atmospheric studies, such as finding the best solvers that can be used in the codes used by the Solar System Evolution and other groups at the department. The position is initially limited to 3 years with possibility to become permanent by mutual agreement. The starting date is as early as February 1st, 2026, but no later than June 1st, 2026. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means: You build an excellent research profile in the field of planetary and stellar atmospheres, and Solar System research. You lead and participate in scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international meetings. You take the lead in the application of new computational tools, such as solvers, to the existing codes used by the group such as the hydrodynamic atmospheric codes for planetary and stellar atmospheres and particles codes. You contribute software expertise to other computational astrophysical groups. You (co-)supervise Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral students in Astronomy. About us Working as part of a world-class academic team based in the Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), the successful candidate will play a central role in the delivery of a high-profile collaborative research project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). About the role Applications are invited from highly motivated and talented candidates for a position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on an NIHR-funded project evaluating Care (Education) and Treatment Reviews (C(E)TRs) for people with a learning disability and autistic people (the OptiCaT project). C(E)TRs were introduced in 2015 as a key intervention in ensuring that people with a learning disability or who are autistic receive the right support in the community and do not spend too long in hospital, if they are admitted. The impact of C(E)TRs on clinical and other outcomes has not been extensively studied. The OptiCaT research programme takes a mixed methods approach. The successful applicant will have a key role in the qualitative work package which aims to understand multi-stakeholder perspectives of the C(E)TR process and how this may be improved. This will include participant recruitment through various means, data acquisition (primarily through individual semi-structured interviews), data analysis, and working with the research team and PPI co-researchers to interpret the data and disseminate findings. In addition, the successful applicant will work with the team to deliver a prospective study within NHS services that investigates the current use and impact of C(E)TRs amongst children and adults with a learning disability or who are autistic. This will include recruitment activities, liaison with study sites, and conducting baseline and follow-up participant assessments. The post-holder will be supported in these tasks by the wider research team and Clinical Studies Officers. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until February 2028. The role will be based at the main IoPPN building at the Denmark Hill campus of KCL. About us The Department of Psychosis Studies is the world’s leading department for research into psychotic disorders by high impact publications. It is part of the IoPPN; the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. The IoPPN produces more highly cited outputs (top 1% citations) on psychiatry and mental health than any other centre (SciVal 2021). The IoPPN's greatest strength is the interdisciplinary nature of both its research strategy and educational activities, providing unique opportunities for students and staff. About the role The postholder will join exciting new studies in the group. These include testing the synaptic hypothesis of psychosis and the role of excitation-inhibition balance in psychotic disorders and testing how the first non-D2 antipsychotics work. The studies involve in vivo imaging with cutting edge PET and fMRI techniques and clinical trials. The postholders will be responsible for recruitment and clinical assessment of participants with psychosis, including clinical rating scales and delivering a high level of care to research participants. They will be responsible for organising and acquiring imaging and other measures and producing scoping literature reviews. The postholders will be responsible for ensuring high quality research governance across projects, helping to analyse, interpret and publish the results of projects, as well as helping to support students who will be working on the projects.
