As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to develop an onboard microgrid simulation model with energy management. Work with research team to deliver the work scope and undertake these responsibilities in the project. Work Responsibilities: Develop a detailed electrical model of the e-vessel microgrid (power system) based on the concept design in a simulation environment such as Matlab/Simulink. Design and develop an intelligent energy management system for the e-vessel microgrid for coordinated control of multiple energy sources considering cost, carbon, and operation constraints. Operate the simulated electrical model on a real-time system such as Typhoon power-in-loop and Opal-RT systems with physical real connections to the EMS controller to perform deterministic simulations for unit, sub-system and whole system verification and validation. Implement and carry out simulation studies for onboard microgrid and connection to shore charging infrastructure Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment and assist in laboratory management. Mentor students involved in the research project. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned. Job Requirements: Have a PhD’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized University. Major in Power Engineering will be advantageous. Minimum 3 year of relevant experience in high fidelity modelling, HIL (OpelRT or Typhoon), electrical system design for better efficiency and system resiliency, and energy management algorithm development using MATLAB/Simulink for marine microgrid applications. Knowledge on control is highly preferred. Have experience and commitment to supervising student projects and providing training. Self-motivated team player and good project management skills. Description The Genetic Heritage Group in the Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Associate to join our interdisciplinary team investigating the discovery of novel bioactive compounds from human, animal, and environmental microbiomes. The successful candidate will focus on wet-lab experimental approaches to isolate, culture, and characterize microbial strains from diverse sources, including human, animal, and environmental microbiomes. This role involves genome sequencing and phenotyping of novel isolates, metabolite extraction and preparation for LC-MS/MS analysis, and validation of biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC)–metabolite links using heterologous expression, pathway activation, and functional assays. The project provides deeply sequenced microbiomes from humans and the environment across a lifestyle gradient. The postdoc will mine this diversity to isolate organisms, validate biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs), characterize microbial metabolites, and functionally test candidate compounds. The Post-Doctoral Associate will also purify candidate metabolites using prep-HPLC and fractionation, assess their biological activity (antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, or immunomodulatory), and work closely with computational collaborators to prioritize microbial strains and BGCs for experimental characterization. In addition, the fellow will maintain accurate laboratory records, troubleshoot experiments, and contribute to manuscript preparation and scientific presentations. The candidate will join a highly multidisciplinary environment consisting of population geneticists, microbiome scientists, statisticians, and computational biologists, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Evolutionary Biology, Microbiology, or a related field, and a strong background in microbiology, microbial genetics, natural product chemistry, or related fields, and hands-on experience with bacterial culture, metabolite extraction, LC-MS/MS, HPLC purification, and functional bioassays. Experience with microbial genomics, heterologous expression, or high-throughput screening is highly desirable. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team are essential. We are seeking a proactive and organized Programme / Lab Manager to oversee the administrative and operational aspects of a 5-year Wellcome Trust funded research programme entitled ‘When your body betrays you: interoceptive mechanisms of anxiety after cancer’. This is an interdisciplinary research programme cutting across psychology, neuroscience, and patient-clinician communication. This dynamic role involves managing budgets, contracts, and collaborations across leading institutions (KCL, UCL, and Stanford), supporting clinical trial-related activities of novel digital mind-body therapies, and facilitating research dissemination through publications and science communication.
