The Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) was founded in 1929 in the Iranian capital Tehran in order to train the country’s engineers and today is considered one of the foremost technical schools in the country.
Originally named the Governmental Technical Institute, it was later called the Advanced Art College before being upgraded to the Iran Faculty of Science and Technology in 1972. In 1978 the Ministry of Sciences granted the faculty full university status and IUST was born.
The university is home to 13 faculties offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a range of engineering-based subjects as well as maths and physics. In 1995 IUST awarded Iran’s first PhDs in Materials, Metallurgical and Traffic Engineering.
There are also 12 research centres, nine centres of excellence and 19 specialised libraries as well as four satellite campuses in other parts of the country.
The campus is situated in the Narmark area in the northeast of Tehran on 42 acres that include academic and administrative buildings, the main library, halls of residence, mosque and indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The university also boasts a 20,000 seater sports stadium.
Alumni include many current and former government ministers but most notably Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s sixth president both studied and taught at the university. Ahmadinejad enrolled in the undergraduate degree in civil engineering at IUST in 1976 before going on to study a masters and then a PhD in traffic and transportation engineering and planning, joining the faculty as a lecturer in 1989.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Coral Reef Restoration to join School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science. The Postdoctoral Fellow in Coral Reef Restoration will join an international and collaborative team of scientists and coral reef restoration practitioners contributing to the Coral Research & Development Accelerator Program (CORDAP) Project on enhancing substrate availability to accelerate reef recovery using novel underwater bioadhesives. The project addresses the challenge to reef recovery which is hindered by poor substrate quality or limited substrate availability. Our novel solution to this ever-accelerating problem is Underwater Bioadhesives that can be integrated into modern reef restoration strategies. Here we will use bioadhesive materials to strengthen substrates for coral settlement, stabilize reef slopes by binding loose rubble, and attach coral fragments as an alternative to concrete and chemical glues. Description We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in sociology, social psychology, computational social science, computer science, information science, data science, or a closely related field. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professors Mario D. Molina, Minsu Park, and Blaine Robbins. The collaborative research will be large-scale analyses of digital traces (e.g., Yelp, Airbnb, Stack Exchange) and virtual lab experiments to study how ingroup favoritism and group boundaries coevolve in multiplex communities; how attribute- and opinion-based cues shape insider/outsider categorization, intergroup relations, and social cohesion; and how to design interventions that promote inclusivity, fairness, and productive discourse online. We seek a candidate with expertise in the following four areas: (1) working with large-scale digital trace data; (2) building and running natural language processing and machine learning workflows; (3) experimental design and causal inference (including virtual lab experiments); and/or (4) network or computational modeling. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in applying these tools to questions of group formation, intergroup relations, and the distribution of resources on online platforms.
