The Role and the Department The Department of Engineering is seeking a Department Manager to lead the Department's organisational and administrative functions, providing strategic support across learning and teaching, the student experience, research, finance, and impact. Working closely with the Head of Department and Senior Management Team, the post holder will contribute to business planning, help shape strategic priorities, oversee the Department's budget and resource allocation, and manage HR processes. They will also strengthen communication mechanisms, particularly through effective IT systems, and identify opportunities to enhance service quality through innovation and continuous improvement. The role includes maintaining and analysing management information, including KPIs and other performance metrics. The Department Manager will be an active member of key committees, including the Senior Management Team, Strategic Advisory Board, Board of Studies, Education Committee, Research Committee, EDI and Wellbeing Committee, and the Athena Swan SAT, as well as contributing to Faculty level and University working groups. Building strong relationships with academic colleagues, professional services teams, and external partners, including transnational partners in Wuhan, China, will be essential. The role requires balancing institutional risk with enabling academic activity, ensuring departmental readiness and the effective delivery of new initiatives. The post includes line management of a team of administrative and ancillary staff. The successful candidate will be highly organised, detail focused, and proactive, able to manage a varied and fast paced workload and work across multiple concurrent activities. The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Computer Networks and Security. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is an advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes. Teaching Responsibilities In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach graduate courses in the Computer Science (MCS) program and undergraduate courses in the Computer Science (CSE) program. The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduct is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes). Teaching should reflect current research methods and results, and comprises lectures on two to four modules from the following areas: Computer Network - 1 Computer Network - 2 Realtime Systems IoT and Smart Devices IT Security Compulsory elective modules The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses and mentoring Ph.D. students. Research Responsibilities As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of defensive architectures, cryptography & authentication, network resilience and emerging topics of computer networks (e.g., edge & fog computing, software-defined networking, AI-native networking). The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable. Administrative responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the Computer Science Program by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the study program and the German partner university, namely Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self-administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies. This position is situated within the Centre for Immersification, dedicated to applied research in immersive technologies and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Research staff at the Centre have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets relevant to industry demands while working on innovative projects within the university. The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to the design, development, and deployment of an advanced content moderation framework for immersive 3D virtual environments, such as Roblox and Minecraft. The research staff will play a key role in building and integrating of AI agents into gaming scenarios (e.g., gameplay, interactions, procedural content generation, dynamic narratives), and integrating a multimodal detection pipeline, ensuring real-time performance, scalability, and deployment readiness in alignment with the project’s research objectives. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of faculty members, engineers, and industry partners, including renowned researchers at the College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS) at NTU. Technical skills, natural curiosity, versatility, and enthusiasm are highly desired traits that will enable success in this fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Manage the research project together with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Collaborate with the PI, Co-PIs and NTU team to design and develop a robust and scalable software system for autonomous agents navigating immersive 3D virtual environments (e.g., Roblox, Minecraft). Design and develop robust and scalable game agents to navigate and interact with immersive 3D virtual environments (e.g., Roblox, Minecraft). Integrate AI agents into gaming scenarios (e.g., gameplay, interactions, procedural content generation, dynamic narratives) Leverage fine-tuned Vision-Language Models (VLMs) for game scenario detection, supporting zero-shot reasoning and scene-graph inference. Ensure the system is deployment-ready by supporting benchmarking of inference speed, compute efficiency, and scalability with concurrent agents. Maintain high software engineering standards through rigorous testing, version control, clear documentation, and continuous improvement of development infrastructure (e.g., CI/CD, Docker, cloud-based services). Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or a related field. Strong programming proficiency in Python and/or C++. Demonstrable experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow). Hands-on experience with game AI agents and/or GUI agents such as Mineflayer, Unity ML-Agents, or similar. Solid expertise in computer vision techniques, transformer architectures, and multi-modal learning. Familiarity with reinforcement learning (RL) principles, curriculum learning strategies, and the challenges of real-time systems.
