About the School / Service IT Services is a centralised resource working collaboratively with the University community to transform UEL's digital world in line with the University’s Vision 2028 strategic plan. About the Job We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of IT Operations & Delivery to provide senior operational leadership across key IT service and delivery functions within the University. This role is responsible for leading multiple technical teams spanning application development and support, infrastructure, networking, end user computing, and integrations. You will ensure that IT services are secure, resilient, cost-effective, and aligned with the University’s strategic objectives. You will play a critical role in driving operational excellence, ensuring effective service performance, governance, and delivery planning across a complex and evolving digital estate. Provide leadership and direction to multi-disciplinary technical teams, ensuring high performance and delivery outcomes Develop and support managers and team leaders, ensuring accountability, professional growth and succession planning Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, customer focus and continuous improvement Lead workforce planning including recruitment, retention, and skills development Ensure availability, performance, resilience and recoverability of IT services across cloud and on-premise platforms Oversee ITIL-aligned processes including incident, problem, change and release management About You You are an experienced IT leader with a strong operational background and a passion for delivering high-quality, resilient services in complex environments. Description The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) in the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on crystal structure determination using electron or X-ray crystallography. Candidates must have substantial experience in crystallography, specifically in the structure solution and refinement of small molecule crystals using either electron or X-ray diffraction techniques. While candidates with experience in structure analysis based on powder diffraction, neutron diffraction, or scattering data will also be considered, preference will be given to those with expertise in electron diffraction. Candidates should be capable of preparing samples, independently collecting data, and solving and refining crystal structures, including those that are theoretically and experimentally challenging, such as structures that exhibit twinning, disorder, or that change or decay over time. Proficiency in refining structures from electron diffraction data collected using a microscope or specialized equipment is preferred. The position is for two years, with the possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in other projects and activities within the Smart Materials Lab and assist in supervising undergraduate or PhD students. Applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field, with a focus on crystallography. Working directly with the Head of Procurement you will have a crucial role in managing the procurement process, ensuring cost effective purchasing, managing internal and external relationships, and ensuring adherence to Financial Regulations. You will work within the wider Finance Function, and in partnership with academic, technical and professional services staff, as part of the central procurement function at LJMU. You will lead on procurement projects for goods and services as allocated, being responsible for the preparation and delivery of all stages of the procurement cycle. You will aim at ensuring continuity of supply, delivering value for money, influencing the wider impact of procurement and the sustainability/reduction in scope 3 carbon emissions. You will also manage commercial and legislative risk relating to Procurement. You will be a key contact for individual faculties and departments, responsible for providing procurement advice, guidance and training on LJMU systems (e-procurement, e-tendering and procurement cards). You will hold a degree-level qualification, or equivalent professional experience, along with extensive experience of managing complex tendering processes. Significant experience of internal financial regulations and UK public procurement legislation is also key as well as knowledge and experience of procurement tendering systems, strong problem-solving skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Whilst not essential, a CIPS qualification (or working towards CIPS) is desirable.
