Basic information and contact details for Armenian State Pedagogical University

The Armenian State Pedagogical University was founded in November 1922. In 1948 it was renamed the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan foundation in honour of the 19th century Armenian writer, Khachatur Abovian. Considered the father of modern Armenian literature, he is best remembered for his novel wounds of Armenia. The university is located in Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia. One of the world’s continuously inhabited cities, Yerevan has been the capital of the country since 1918, the fourteenth in the history of Armenia. The city is situated along the Hrazdan river and is the administrative, cultural and industrial centre of the country. Academically, the university is organised into ten faculties: faculty of philology, faculty of history and social science, faculty of preschool education, faculty of biology, chemistry and geography, faculty of education psychology and sociology, faculty of foreign languages, faculty of mathematics, physics and informatics, faculty of art education, faculty of special and inclusive education, and the faculty of culture. Each faculty is divided into different departments, which offer a wide range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. There is also the ‘Pushkin Institute’, which is a Russian language teaching and testing centre. In May 2004, the university established the Museum of Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan. The museum focuses its attention on visitors who have special educational needs. It cooperates with the faculty of special education, as well as the polish Ari Ari foundation to address the needs of blind and visually impaired visitors.
