BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2016

The Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2016 includes only institutions in countries classified as emerging (“Advanced Emerging”, “Secondary Emerging” or “Frontier”) by FTSE, including the “BRICS” nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The rankings use the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship World University Rankings but are recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies. For the first time the ranking includes 200 institutions, up from the 100 universities ranked in previous years. View the methodology here. China has reinforced its dominance in this year's table, claiming half of the top 10 spots and a fifth of the total number of institutions. The other BRICS nations have also made progress. This year's table includes 35 countries (up from 18 last year), including 16 for the first time, such as Qatar, Bangladesh, Greece and Romania.
