Times Higher Education (THE), the trusted global data partner for higher education, has today announced an exciting partnership with Common Purpose, a not-for-profit organisation providing training programmes for students to help gain the skills to thrive in their careers, and take on leadership positions both at work and in society.

With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic hitting society and jobs around the world, the next generation of leaders – many of whom are now exploring which universities to study at – are preparing to live and work in a fast, fluid and disrupted world. Working in close partnership with Common Purpose, THE will be able to help the millions of students who visit its website every year prepare for post-university success through an online leadership programme designed by Common Purpose to meet their needs.

With 30 years of experience developing young people into inclusive leaders, Common Purpose will provide existing and prospective students with access to a rich, online learning experience. This includes compelling leadership content, interactive exercises, and personal career insights from senior figures at global organisations. Over 8,000 students around the world already complete Common Purpose’s programmes each year, with 66% of those taking a course within the last 15 years believing the experience helped them take on a leadership role in their job or community.

Andy Coxall, Chief Executive, Common Purpose Student Experiences, commented:

We’re thrilled to partner with THE on what we believe is a hugely important initiative to give students critical employability skills for the 21st Century. We know this next generation are set to face unique, complex challenges – both at work and within society. That’s why, at Common Purpose, we’re devoted to developing the cross-boundary leadership skills students will need to bring different people together in order to solve common problems. This highly energising and experiential new programme will enable students to gain insight from inspiring leaders across the world and develop the skills they need to thrive in their life, studies and future careers.”

Paul Howarth, CEO, THE, commented:

“We are incredibly excited to kickstart 2021 with another important partnership for THE’s rapidly growing student business. Common Purpose’s experience in inspiring and enabling the next generation of leaders is unmatched and felt like a natural fit for our first venture into online courses. We know that, even in the initial stages of considering studying abroad, prospective international students say that maximising their career prospects is of paramount importance to them. Working with Common Purpose, we want to ensure they are doing everything they can to prepare for employability from the very outset of their studies.”
