The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Bhopal (IISER Bhopal) was set up by the Government of India in 2008. Its aim was to incorporate research in basic science at undergraduate and graduate level, with equal emphasis on higher education for research and education in science. As an autonomous institution, it awards its own degrees. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) were created in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to promote quality education and research in basic sciences. IISER Bhopal sits alongside those in Pune, Kolkata, Mohali, Trivandrum, Tirupati and Berhampur. IISER Bhopal is the largest of all of these. The campus, which covers around 200 acres of land, is at Bhauri Village, in the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It prides itself on its green campus and sustainable environmental initiatives, from the solar power plant with zero investment on private partnership, to the lake for rain water harvesting and recharge wells for storm water recharging. There are nine academic departments which are: physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, earth and environmental sciences, chemical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, and the department of economic sciences. All offer bachelor of sciences, combined bachelor and master of sciences, combined MS-PhDs and PhDs. There are around 1,580 students, 1,100 postgraduate students and 470 doctoral students. The student-run Students Activity Council (SAC), an extracurricular union of students, contains seven different activity councils: computing and networking council, cultural council, fine arts and literary council, science council, sports council, student development council, environmental and social initiative council.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the project “Rare Earth Element Valorisation and Extraction in Vietnam: An Integrated Sustainability Approach” which addresses Vietnam’s strategic need for environmentally responsible and low-carbon pathways for rare earth element (REE) recovery and processing. The project integrates computational modelling, experimental research, fieldwork and appropriate sustainability tools (eg life cycle assessment) to evaluate and develop sustainable REE extraction routes. The postdoc will work on the molecular-level understanding and design of functionalized adsorbents for selective REE recovery from dilute or complex matrices. In addition, the postdoc is expected to conduct experimental and field-based investigations of biomass-assisted and nature-based extraction approaches in Vietnam. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to: Apply computational models (or collaborate with computational experts) for REE–adsorbent interactions. Perform or co-develop environmental impact analyses for REE processing routes. Design and conduct laboratory experiments and selected fieldwork related to biomass-based REE extraction in Vietnam. Analyze and integrate experimental, modeling and environmental-based data to develop sustainability insights. Co-supervise students and contribute to the overall research culture of the group. Present research findings at conferences, workshops and meetings. QUALIFICATIONS PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Applied Chemistry or related discipline. Strong record of publications in Journal Citation Indexed (JCR) journals. Qualification or experience in any of the following disciplines: Life Cycle Assessment, Density Functional Theory or Materials Experimentation & Characterization. The African Genome Center (AGC) invites applications for an open-rank faculty position in Environmental OMICS. This position focuses on the application of high-throughput OMICS approaches (genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) as well as metabarcoding to investigate biological systems within environmental contexts. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing our understanding of microbial, plant, and ecosystem-level processes that drive environmental function, resilience, and sustainability. Applicants should demonstrate strong expertise in analyzing OMICS data generated from environmental samples, enabling insights into biodiversity, community structure, functional potential, and ecosystem processes. Experience in integrating multi-omics datasets and linking molecular data with environmental, ecological, or biogeochemical variables is highly desirable.
