Breda University of Applied Sciences is located in Breda in the Netherlands and was first established in 1966. The student body is made up of students from across the Netherlands and across the globe, with students from over 100 countries studying there. Courses are offered from bachelor’s to master’s level in a variety of programmes, across nine main departments: built environment; facilities; games; hotel management; leisure and events; logistics; media; tourism and artificial intelligence and data management. The courses across these departments range from tourism management to game technology and creative business. The university provides work placements, professional training and collaborations with businesses for students. Built environment students will undertake work placements in the sector of their choice in both their third and fourth year as part of a graduation project. Most third or fourth year students in any of Breda’s programmes will undertake a work placement to complete their graduation project, with lengths varying from 18-40 weeks. The new campus has an area called Innovation Square, where students, researchers and professionals can create, develop and research their ideas. There are meeting facilities, brainstorming sessions and flexible workspaces for students to make their ideas a reality. Several large companies use the Innovation Square, including Logistic Workx, NEXT and Sassybot, allowing students to meet and network with industry professionals.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Project Title: Harnessing Cerium: Smart Rare Earth Catalysts for Solar-Driven Abatement of Toluene in Industrial Effluents (Project AURORA) This project addresses a critical national challenge by valorizing Vietnam’s vast, underutilized rare-earth (cerium) deposits into a powerful solution for industrial air pollution. Our goal is to develop a novel solar-driven photothermocatalytic process to efficiently destroy harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), like toluene, at their source in industrial effluents. By integrating advanced materials synthesis with a predictive Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, we will accelerate the discovery of efficient and sustainable solutions for environmental remediation. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Researcher to play a foundational role in this pioneering 18-month project at the Center for Materials Innovation and Technology (CMIT) at VinUniversity. A Unique Opportunity to Build and Lead This is not a typical postdoctoral position in a long-established laboratory. As the first postdoctoral researcher in a newly forming research group, you will have the unique and exciting opportunity to help build our lab from the ground up. You will be instrumental in designing, commissioning, and shaping the core experimental facilities and research direction. This role is ideal for a passionate, independent researcher who is eager to take on significant responsibility, solve real-world challenges, and help establish a lasting legacy of cutting-edge environmental research at VinUniversity. Key Roles and Responsibilities The successful candidate will be a driving force behind the project’s success and will be expected to: Lead Lab Development: Take the lead in the design, assembly, and commissioning of a state-of-the-art, automated photothermocatalytic reactor system. Advanced Catalyst Synthesis: Design and synthesize a library of high-performance, nanostructured ceria-based catalysts derived from rare-earth precursors. Material Characterization: Rigorously characterize the physicochemical properties of the synthesized materials using various advanced techniques. Experimental Campaign & Data Generation: Conduct systematic, high-fidelity experiments to evaluate catalyst performance under industrially relevant conditions. Data Analysis and Dissemination: Analyze experimental data and take a leading role in preparing high-impact manuscripts, patent applications, and conference presentations. Mentorship: Assist in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students involved in the project. Candidate Profile: A Ph.D. in Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline is required. A strong track record of high-quality publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals. Demonstrated hands-on experience in materials synthesis and characterization. Prior experience with gas-phase systems (e.g., gas-phase catalytic reactions, adsorption, or reactor design) is strongly encouraged and will be highly valued. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related fields. Possessing a Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in Electrical/Electronics Engineering environment. Have deep, hands-on competence in the following areas: High voltage switching Engineering design, modelling & analysis of conventional power, wind & solar farms Engineering design of transmission & distribution substations, electrical distribution systems of industries and commercial buildings Power system protection application and relay coordination Digital/Analogue/Power electronics IoT/Micro-controller application It will be advantageous with working knowledge of/as: Knowledge in programming/using Python, MATLAB, LTspice, IoT platform. Authorised high voltage switching Engineer Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of industry practices and engineering principles to bring industry perspective to SIT Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Institution Background Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) has established a new campus in Taicang city –XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang), with the collaboration of the Taicang Municipal Government and industry partners. It aims to pioneer the XJTLU 2.0 – Syntegrative Education model to cultivate future-ready leaders. As part of its vision and mission to explore Syntegrative Education and create an entrepreneurial ecosystem, XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) comprises seven Industry-themed Schools and several campus-level platforms. The Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Hub (EEH), as one of the cross-campus innovation platforms, serves as the cornerstone for catalysing entrepreneurial learning, applied research, and venture development. EEH is led by a Director and consists of four divisions: Entrepreneurial Education, Entrepreneurship and Incubation, Enterprise and Industry Ecosystem, and Industry Executive Education. This role directly oversees Innovation Factory (ideation-to-solution testing) and X3 Co-Venture (incubation-to-acceleration) – dual engines powering XEC’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Role Overview The Director of Entrepreneurship and Incubation provides senior strategic leadership for the development, integration, and operational excellence of Innovation Factory and X3 Co-Venture. Reporting directly to the Director of EEH, in collaboration with the XEC Chief Operating Officer and Deans of School, this role drives synergies between both units to advance XEC’s entrepreneurial vision while embedding innovation across academic programmes and external partnerships. The successful candidate will demonstrate entrepreneurial acumen, forge cross-functional alliances, and influence institutional strategy to position XEC as a leader in innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialisation. Key Responsibilities and Duties Direct and provide strategic and operational leadership of Innovation Factory and X3 Co-Venture, aligning with EEH’s strategic objectives and XEC-wide priorities. Establish integrated governance frameworks, policies, and operational protocols for both units, incorporating academic, industry, and governmental perspectives. Secure and strategically allocate financial, human, and infrastructural resources to sustain growth and innovation across both units. Provide strategic oversight of budgeting, investment controls, and legal compliance for both units, ensuring fiscal integrity and adherence to university and market policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory standards. Directly manage Directors of Innovation Factory and X3 Co-Venture, and co-lead the Operation Team (direct-line reporting to the Chief Operating Officer) to foster high-performance cultures and collaborative excellence.  Cultivate solid partnerships with faculty, students, investors, government entities, and industry to amplify impact and secure opportunities. Advise the XEC Leadership Team on entrepreneurship strategy, scalable incubation models, and ecosystem development. Proactively monitor strategic risks and emerging opportunities for both units, ensuring compliance with university priorities, market trends and national and international regulatory frameworks.  Drive collaboration between Innovation Factory and X3 Co-Venture for seamless venture pipelines. Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer to optimise centralised support functions (e.g., finance, IT, HR, local government) for enhanced operational efficiency. Represent Innovation Factory, X3 Co-Venture, and EEH at national/international forums, government meetings, and industry events to elevate institutional visibility. Oversee the creation of joint initiatives and events (e.g., mentorship schemes, innovation challenges) bridging research, education, and commercialisation. Maintain high-level external networks to access early-stage market intelligence, benchmark best practices, and influence entrepreneurial policy landscapes.  Perform any other work-related tasks assigned by the line manager or the Leader of the XEC Leadership Team. Qualifications and Experiences Substantial senior-level experience in entrepreneurial education, incubator/accelerator management, or innovation ecosystem development within higher education or comparable settings. Proven success in strategically overseeing multiple business units/projects (e.g., incubators, innovation labs) with integrated performance metrics. Established credibility with academic, industry, and government partners; demonstrated ability to negotiate resources and represent institutions at executive levels. Track record of leading managers and cross-functional teams to deliver complex, institution-wide initiatives. We are passionate structural biologists (focused on NMR spectroscopy of nucleic acids) at CEITEC, looking for  Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Non-Coding Genome Research group About this position:  We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team! The research project will focus on developing fluorine NMR methodologies to unravel the nucleic acid conformational landscapes. G-quadruplexes (G4) and i-motifs (iM) are paradigmatic non-canonical nucleic acid structures that are abundant in the human genome and overrepresented in evolutionarily conserved and functionally important regions, including the telomeres, centromeres, and promoter regions of (onco)genes. They have been involved in pathobiological processes and the development of genetic instability-driven conditions, rendering them a fascinating subject within structural biology. This project will integrate ¹⁹F NMR and complementary biophysical assays on G-quadruplex- and i-Motif-forming DNA/RNA sequences to investigate their structural equilibrium, dynamics, and ligand binding interactome in vitro and in the intracellular space. The outcome will provide fundamental insights into the dynamic structural interconversion of non-canonical nucleic acid systems, enabling the fine-tuning of gene expression and associated cellular dysfunctions. We are seeking a creative and independent individual with documented research experience relevant to this position. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds and are committed to fair hiring practices. The ideal researcher (EU Researcher Profile: R2) profile: Must-have: A PhD degree or equivalent in structural biology, Chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field.
