Translational Research: Seeding Drug Discovery

The Wellcome Trust wishes to facilitate interdisciplinary research groups to engage in early drug discovery projects where this builds on novel perspectives from the study of disease mechanisms or the activity of compounds. We see the value of the initiative coming from research that is complementary to the R&D programmes in industry. At the same time, the research must progress to a point where the pharmaceutical companies, or other organisations (such as product development Public-Private Partnerships), see the technology as attractive because of a reduced level of risk
