The Liberal Democrats have published their Youth Manifesto this week, promising student loans for all young people studying below degree level and greater funding parity between universities and the rest of the post-16 education sector.

Scientists are meeting in Edinburgh to examine the latest advances in human genetics. The meeting, hosted by the Human Genome Organisation, will also discuss legal, social and ethical issues such as gene commercialisation.
Imperial seeks power to award degrees
Imperial College is making a bid for degree-awarding status, which would allow it to award degrees independently of the University of London. Hamish Common, president of Imperial's student union, said: “The University of London name is prestigious, but we would prefer to have Imperial degrees.”
