Youth in work data request is denied

The government this week rejected calls to publish the number of young people who get a steady job immediately after full-time education and training under the New Deal.

The Commons education and employment select committee after its inquiry into the New Deal for Young People recommended that data should be published for those finding jobs that last more than 26 weeks.

However, the government said 26 weeks was too long a period for young people. It will continue to publish the figure for 13 weeks.
