Australian universities will have to forge stronger links with industry and research money allocation will alter radically if the federal government's green paper on research, New Knowledge, New Opportunities, is implemented. The green paper, published this week, recommends combining special research grants into a single competitive scheme. Scholarships for postgraduates will be portable to give them greater choice of where to study.
