Asked why Portugal is the only EU nation with a respectable supply of women professors (over 30 per cent of full professors and a majority of assistant professors), she points out that Portuguese professors have been too badly paid to support a family. Beyond the EU the same also applies in

Turkey. Cut all professorial

salaries by 75 per cent, she reckons, and watch the women take over.
