Will taking away maths make physics popular?

University physics departments are to be asked to consider a new physics degree that will not require students to have mathematics A level.

An Institute of Physics working group is developing several models for the degree, which aims to counter the decline in physics undergraduates.

John Williams, professor of physics at Sheffield University, said only the new degree could increase participation in physics.
