E-learning could help universities prepare junior doctors to develop a more technology-enabled health service, according to David Davies (pictured), who joins Warwick University as a reader in medical education.

It was Warwick's pioneering approach to e-learning and its strong record in research into innovative teaching methods that attracted him to the job, he said. Dr Davies leaves Birmingham University after 15 years, where he was a senior lecturer in medical education.

Katherine Denby , former researcher in molecular and cell biology at the University of Cape Town, has been appointed senior lecturer in plant science.

Peter Eastmond , from York University, has joined the horticulture research international department as a lecturer.

Xing Jin takes up a post as senior lecturer in finance, leaving his current post as associate professor at the National University of Singapore.

OUT

Husband and wife Paul and Leslie Goldberg have left to take up a computer science readership and a professorship respectively at Liverpool University.

Stephen Hagen , director of Warwick's Mercia Institute of Enterprise, becomes director of the University of the West of England's Centre for Research, Innovation and Graduate Studies.

Colin Jones , history professor for the past ten years, takes up a history chair at Queen Mary, University of London, next month.
