ABERTAY DUNDEE

Steve Olivier - the new head of the School of Social and Health Sciences and professor of sport and exercise science - sees potential for imaginative research into the health of the local population.

"Abertay is small enough for me to be able to make a difference, but, more importantly, it's willing to be innovative in a market that tends to follow trends."

Professor Olivier was previously head of sport sciences at Northumbria University. In his native South Africa he held posts at Cape Town and Zululand universities. He played top-level rugby in South Africa, and coached there and in the UK. As a lifelong surfer, he is keen to explore Scotland's coastal waters.
