ROEHAMPTON
As witness to the ethnic "cleansing" practised by Serbian forces in the 1992-95 Bosnian war, Gregory Kent (pictured), a former journalist, will offer students a taste of reality when he joins Roehampton University.
"I went into a town that had been 'cleansed', and there were women and children fleeing. It was chilling," said Dr Kent, who starts as lecturer in international relations and human rights at the School of Business and Social Sciences on January 16.
Dr Kent is former deputy editor of the Bureau of National Affairs' Eastern Europe Reporter and latterly a research fellow at Plymouth University.

Chris Cobb has been named pro vice-chancellor. He joins from the London School of Economics.
Andy Masheter has been appointed pro vice-chancellor. He was previously at London South Bank University.
Becky Francis has been appointed professor of education at Roehampton. She joins from London Metropolitan University.

Sara Doherty , formerly head of learning support and development in Roehampton's Educational Development Centre, joins Exeter University.
Mike Dobson , formerly professor of Renaissance drama at Roehampton's School of Arts, moves to Birkbeck, University of London.
Peter Weston , deputy vice-chancellor, has retired.
