"Nowhere in the world is there a system for dealing with major accidents after the second day," says Gary Coleman, director of a new World Health Organisation clearing house for major chemical incidents at the Cardiff Institute of Higher Education which will use new information to improve the training of public health workers involved in chemical hazards work. Research just completed at the institute shows that there were 450 chemical incidents in Wales alone in the past three years which could have damaged public health.
